During facilitation, parties often disagree to the point where the conflict level requires intervention by the facilitator.  By implementing strategies often used by mediators when conflict intensifies, the facilitator can help parties effectively navigate through the conflict, enabling parties to arrive at mutually acceptable decisions.  In this workshop, participants will enhance their ability to:

  • Understand the overlap and distinctions between mediation and facilitation;
  • Understand the conflict escalation cycle
  • Use the Circle of Conflict, developed by Christopher Moore, to diagnose conflict and to design appropriate interventions for when conflict arises.
  • Determine when a change in process will enhance the parties’ ability to move through conflict

Facilitator:

Robin Amadei, JD, is the owner of a training, mediation, facilitation, workplace assessment and conflict coaching organization, Common Ground Mediation and Coaching, LLC. Her mission is to help people become excellent communicators and problem solvers so that they are empowered to resolve conflict, enhance skills, meet goals for success, and move ahead in their lives. Robin provides training for corporations and the government in the areas of conflict management, conflict coaching, negotiation skills, facilitation, mediation skills, diversity, and effective communication. Since 1994, Robin has been an adjunct professor at the University of Denver, teaching mediation and negotiation classes.
