ATD Pikes Peak Chapter - Partner Event
Match Your Training Needs and Business Goals

Description:

Have you got an idea for a training program that your company seriously needs, only you worry your boss won't support your enthusiasm or project? Do you know what may convince him to support your effort?  Do you know how your idea will improve your company's talent or better yet, support your company's goals or mission?

As Patricia Pulliam Phillips, PhD and Jack Phillips, PhD discusses in The Business Case for Learning (2017, p. 8), "unless learning is connected to the business of the organization and helping to drive the business, it will not be a sustainable process...[and] when it comes to delivering results for programs, hope is not a strategy, luck is not a factor, and doing nothing is not an option" (p. 13).    Instructional designers and Training Leads need to do more than feel that their training solution is what the company needs.  They need to know and prove it’s good for the success of the business.

During this 90-minute session, you will learn how to:

  • Determine two approaches to a training need or gap in employee performance.
  • Align the training need to a business or company's goal.
  • Evaluate if a training solution satisfies the need.
  • Determine if the expected outcomes of the training solution align with the business' goals and mission.
  • Work with your organization’s leadership to garner support for your training recommendation.

Bring your organization's mission and goals, and your ideas.  This interactive session will include open discussion and exercises for you to look at your own ideas and to determine if those training ideas align with your business goals. The ultimate goal is for you to examine how you can align your training needs with your business' goals and mission.
