Mind the Gap: 5 Sneaky Communication Pitfalls for Leaders

In this fun and interactive session, "Mind the Gap: 5 Sneaky Communication Pitfalls for Leaders," leaders at all levels will explore common communication challenges that can trip them up—like dealing with emotions, staying focused, and overcoming negativity. Through hands-on activity and real-world strategies, participants will discover how to connect better with their teams, build trust, and improve their overall communication skills. This session is all about making leadership easier and more effective in a relatable way.

Learning Activity Teaser: Participants will be placed into small groups and assigned one of the five communication challenges. Each group will brainstorm one practical solution to address their assigned challenge. The focus will be to create a strategy leaders can use to overcome this pitfall in real world scenarios. The activity will close with each group briefly presenting their solution.

  • Bio:  Dr. Sherri Adams is a global leadership development expert and Assistant Professor of Management with over 15 years of experience helping leaders grow and thrive. Known for her engaging teaching style—her students often compare her to Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus—Sherri specializes in improving emotional intelligence, communication, and team collaboration through interactive workshops. With a Ph.D. in Management & Organizational Leadership, she blends research-based insights with practical tools to help leaders overcome communication challenges and build stronger, more connected teams.
