  WHO CAN REGISTER

  • The study group is open to anyone, anywhere who is interested in pursuing the CPTD certification. 
  • International participants are welcome. 
  • ATD or ATD Chapter membership is not required, but ATD partner chapter members receive discounted pricing on registration for the full cohort. Please check to see if your Chapter is a partner chapter. 

  MEETING DETAILS

  This cohort meets virtually on Tuesdays for 12 weeks plus an Information session held in advance. It ends just prior to the CPTD Exam test window. The last day to register for this cohort is September 8, 2026.

  Registered participants will be sent the virtual meeting logon information 24 hours in advance of the session. Virtual meeting times are:

  • 4:30 to 6:30 pm Pacific Time
  • 5:30 to 7:30 pm Mountain Time (Denver) - Arizona participants, please monitor daylight savings time. We will not adjust the time. 
  • 6:30 to 8:30 pm Central Time
  • 7:30 to 9:30 pm Eastern Time

  ATD recommends that you purchase the Talent Development Book of Knowledge (TDBok)  2nd edition to prepare for the certification exam. This is not included with the study group registration. If you make a purchase from the ATD Store, don't forget to use your chapter's CHiP code.

  Building the Internal Capacity to Navigate Work, Change, and Life

  You can have the right skills. The right experience. The right training. And still struggle to apply it when it matters most.

  
  

  That’s not a skill problem.

  It’s a capacity problem.

  Right now, many L&D professionals are navigating real pressure—career transitions, uncertainty, shifting expectations, and the emotional weight that comes with it.

  At the same time, organizations are asking you to help others perform, adapt, and stay engaged.

  So, the question becomes: How do you help others build resilience…when you’re being asked to access it yourself?

  This 6-part Special Interest Group introduces Psychological Capital SIG (PsyCap SIG) - an evidence-based framework developed by Fred Luthans that focuses on four measurable internal capacities:

  HERO

  • Hope (pathways + agency)
  • Efficacy (confidence in action)
  • Resilience (ability to recover and adapt)
  • Optimism (constructive explanatory thinking)

  Sessions will be held on the First Friday of each month, 12:00-1:00 PM MT, via Zoom:

  What Makes This SIG Different:

  This is not a lecture series. Every session is: Immediately applicable, Grounded in real-life challenges, Designed for you first, then your organization

  • Build your own internal capacity to navigate uncertainty and pressure
  • Experience practical exercises you can reuse in training, coaching, and leadership development
  • Learn how to embed PsyCap into learning programs that actually change behavior

  Diana Lowe is an Executive Coach and Founder of Blue Light Leadership,

  specializing in Positive Psychology and leadership development. With a master’s

  in Applied Positive Psychology and a PCC credential through the ICF, she helps

  organizations build Psychological Capital (Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, and

  Optimism) to drive real behavior change. Diana has coached leaders at global

  organizations including Google, Meta, and NASA, and is known for translating

  Go deeper on this year's statewide conference theme with an engaging four-part book club series featuring Disrupt Everything—and Win by James Patterson and Patrick Leddin, PhD.

  Disrupt Everything explores how we can respond to—and even harness—the disruption that has become a constant part of our personal and professional lives. From workplace and career changes to AI and other rule-changing technologies, unexpected crises, and the growing sense that we’re losing control, disruption can feel like something that happens to us. Patterson and Leddin offer a different perspective: disruption can also be a powerful force for positive change. Drawing on research from Vanderbilt University’s Disruption Project and stories of people who have navigated significant change, the authors provide practical strategies for becoming a “positive disrupter”—someone who can recognize opportunities, challenge the status quo, take purposeful action, and shape a better future.

  Session 2: October 21 (post-conference) - Fueling the Fire: Turning Disruption into Opportunity: Chapters 5-8

  ATD RMC Members who attend at least three of the four scheduled discussions will be eligible to have the cost of the book reimbursed to them (up to $15).

  We encourage participants to explore a variety of options when securing this book including the public library system. You can also use the Libby app to check out the audio version of this book from the library.

  Each session includes a 15-minute coaching topic from an ICF-certified career coach, followed by small group breakout conversations and optional hot seat coaching so you can get your most pressing questions answered.

  Topics span the full job search: strengths, values, resumes, LinkedIn, interviewing, and negotiating. Topics may shift based on group needs. Here's a tentative plan for topics:

In this engaging 60-minute session, participants will explore how to communicate feedback with greater clarity, empathy, and courage. Through practical tools, real-world examples, and interactive discussion, leaders will discover how to give feedback that develops others while also learning how to receive feedback without defensiveness. This session equips leaders and learning professionals with actionable strategies to improve communication, deepen trust, and create healthier workplace conversations that lead to growth and accountability. 
  

  Learning Objectives

  By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the three types of feedback and apply the Feedback Game Plan to reinforce behavior, redirect performance, and develop others effectively.
    

  • Apply the Feedback Loop Model by practicing clarifying, confirming, and perspective-taking skills when receiving feedback.
    
  • Understand the role of empathy in feedback conversations and use empathy-based listening techniques to improve communication and trust.

  The highest-performing leaders aren't the ones who rest least. They're the ones who know how to rest best.

  In this interactive workshop, explore what rest means for you, why it always seems to slip down the priority list, and how to make it stick through simple, intentional practices. Drawing on Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith's framework of seven rest types, discover which kinds of rest you're missing most and design a personal rest practice that fits into your life at home and at work.

  Leave with a clearer understanding of what you and your colleagues need to show up at your best and a concrete plan to intentionally weave rest into your working rhythms.

  Objectives:

  • Explore your relationship with rest, developing a more holistic understanding of rest in the process

  • Identify and take opportunities to more intentionally nurture your inner rested leader

  Tes’ life purpose is to foster belonging and continuous learning by creating spaces that center community and curiosity.  She delights in doing exactly that by co-designing and facilitating transformative gatherings with purpose-driven organizations as founder and chief gathering officer of Gather Better.

  Her career began serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in rural Costa Rica and includes several years in the nonprofit world as well as five years in corporate philanthropy at Gap Inc. Tes is also the co-founder of Radical Reset, creating a movement of rested leaders and a world in which rest is democratized, normalized, and celebrated. Before moving to Denver in 2020, Tes biked 3,125 miles across the country from California to Florida.

  Tes has her Masters in Public Administration from NYU and BA in Psychology and Spanish from Connecticut College.  She currently serves on the board of Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC), supporting a coalition of organizations dedicated to improving the lives of immigrants and refugees.

  In her spare time, Tes enjoys biking, rock climbing, teaching yoga, and travel (30 states and 30 countries visited and counting!).
